HARRISBURG – A planned renovation of the St. Ann’s campus of Erie’s Sarah A. Reed Children’s Center (SARCC) has been awarded $71,500 through the Neighborhood Assistance Program (NAP), announced Sen. Dan Laughlin (R-49).
“Sarah Reed has had a presence in Erie since 1871, and it now specializes in mental and behavioral health care for children, teens, families and individuals,” said Laughlin. “The St. Ann’s campus is home to several school-based classrooms for the students in Sarah Reed’s sanctuary-based learning programs, many of whom have experienced some form of trauma in their lives.
“This funding will help Sarah Reed continue its mission to enhance the well-being of children, adults and families, helping them realize their potential and experience success.”
Sarah Reed’s St. Ann’s campus is home to the Sanctuary® Education for Learning Fundamentals Program (SELF) and the Sanctuary® Based Learning Program (SBLP), which serve children in grades 3-12 from the Erie City School District.
The NAP award will be used to help replace the main roof and the north gym roof at St. Ann’s campus as well as help upgrade the building’s HVAC system.
The type of NAP grant received by SARCC is used to target distressed areas or support neighborhood conservation. Projects must fall under one of the following categories: affordable housing programs, community services, crime prevention, education, job training or neighborhood assistance.
