A major sewer system project was awarded $2.5 million in funding from the Pennsylvania Infrastructure Investment Authority (PENNVEST) today (April 21), according to Senator Dan Laughlin.
The Summit Township Sewer Authority was awarded the low-interest loan toward a major reconfiguration of is collection system. The project includes replacement of a pump station on Oliver Road to increase its capacity from 180 gallons-per-minute to 800 gallons-per-minute. Nearly 9,000 feet of sewer lines will be upsized as part of the work.
“The current pumping station and feeder lines are outdated and basically overwhelmed,” Senator Laughlin said. “This project will address those issues and prepare the area for future development. In addition, the project will prevent untreated or inadequately-treated sewage discharges into local waterways draining into Elk Creek and Lake Erie.”
PENNVEST financing is provided through federal funding and prior bond issues by the state. It is not supported by the state’s General Fund budget, which covers the daily operations and services of the Commonwealth.
