Citing the continuing spread of the coronavirus in Pennsylvania, Senator Dan Laughlin (R-49) today urged his colleagues to support his paid family medical leave legislation. Senator Laughlin called on his fellow Senators to co-sponsor Senate Bill 580, legislation he is sponsoring that would implement a program that allows for paid family leave for working Pennsylvanians.
“Protecting our citizens who experience an illness and affording peace of mind against the economic disaster of lost wages is a shared goal, which has become even more apparent as the uncertain course and scope of the COVID-19 pandemic continues to unfold,” Senator Laughlin wrote in a letter to his colleagues. “We need the Family Care Act in Pennsylvania more than ever.”
He said employees who feel sick should not be compelled to work and put others at risk and many small businesses simply can’t afford to pay workers who must deal with virus-related issues involving their families.
“We must act to support workers across the Commonwealth as we confront the realization that unexpected and protracted illness can strike anyone at any time,” Senator Laughlin said. “The Family Care Act is the right thing to do – and now is the right time to do it.”
