Two new designations could honor veterans of the Persian Gulf War and the Global War on Terrorism under legislation approved by the Senate today, according to Senator Dan Laughlin who supported the bill.
Senate Bill 248 would designate March 6 as Persian Gulf War Veterans Day and October 7 as Global War on Terrorism Veterans Day. The bill would require the governor to encourage schools to observe the contributions of veterans in these conflicts. However, the observations would not be mandatory for schools.
More than 2.5 million American served in these conflicts, and more than 6,000 Americans and 324 Pennsylvanians perished in the line of duty.
The bill was sent to the House of Representatives for consideration.
